A few of you have expressed interest in some hands on/getting started practice with Android programming last week. I'm thinking about doing a code jam session outside of the regular monthly meetup. My initial idea is to get together a small group (less than 10) of people, each bring a laptop, build some simple applications together as a practice, ask questions and discuss. This is sort of like an Android study group, open forum kind of deal.
I haven't thought too much as to what we should build in the code jam yet. I'm thinking about using some tutorial examples as a start, or we can install the Android SDK. I don't know yet, and I'm looking for your suggestions.
Once we have enough ideas, we'll put together a small agenda for the code jam session, then we'll decide where to do the code jam session.
So ... let's start some brainstorming here ...
What topic would you guys like to focus on for starters:
[1] How to set up the Android SDK and Eclipse IDE in an efficient way.
[2] Follow a couple of tutorials
[3] App Ideas (even if they already exist) » next comment :)
App Ideas: [3.1] A nice and usable Tip&Split calculator » should be easier for beginning
[3.2] A shopping list manager
[3.3] A dictionary that would access a server / remote web service
[3.4] Give the user the ability to take a screenshot from his phone » like ShootMe, but not requiring the phone to be rooted?
[3.5] A client to search tweets » using the Tweeter API
I changed the date and time to Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM
The locations / date-time are just suggestions.
I would like to see an app-framework for accessing a RESTful web site with nice phone-friendly form buttons etc.
Simon, please post this great learning opportunity on
www.yesfreeclass.com BTW, any of you like to be interviewed on TV? please conact me: kongphoenix@gmail.com
+1 for *an app-framework for accessing a RESTful web site with nice phone-friendly form buttons etc.*
Or at least something close along those lines.
I like your idea and appreciate Code Jam Session since I am new to this Android world. I think there are lots of people who wants to learn building Simple applications in Android. Count me in, I'll be in those sessions.
One or Two tutorial can be discussed in each Session and session agenda/topic to be covered can be declared before that. One or Two member will direct each session, and once novice programmer are confident, should take over and agree to deliver the same for new ppls
